What is Music Camp
Music Camp NZ is supported by the Seventh-day Adventist church. Eastward Missions have encouraged us to start these camps in New Zealand, and have helped in an advisory role.
Discipleship
The primary aim of Music Camp NZ is to bring glory to God. He is the giver of every good and perfect gift, including music. We endeavour to structure the camp in such a way as to foster a positive, spiritual environment. The young people are encouraged in their personal walk with God through personal devotions, daily sharing time, Bible classes, and Scripture memorisation. The young people are also encouraged to take part in outreach activities where they will have the opportunity to share the love of God in practical ways in the community.
Development
Music Camp NZ also seeks to develop the musical abilities of the young people so that they are better equipped to use their talents for God's glory. Choral and orchestral workshops will be provided. Together the participants work on the music during daily rehearsals. This will give them valuable experience in working in large-group musical performances.
Music Production
The music prepared at camp will be shared at local concerts. It will also be recorded and filmed in outdoor locations to create video productions. These videos will then be shared on platforms such as YouTube and TV, so that they can be a blessing to many.
Camp Structure
The camp is structured so that similar ages are in groups of about 8 people. These groups are looked after by youth leaders, who are spiritual mentors for the young people. They also ensure that participants under 18 are accounted for at all times. The groups do camp activities together, and build friendships along the way.
The days at camp begin with time in the morning for personal prayer and Bible study. This is followed by breakfast and exercise. For the first half of camp, daily activities include Bible class, workshops, musical training and rehearsals. During the second half of camp, time is set aside to film in nature, to record the music, and to do community outreach. During evening worship, everyone comes together to sing, share, and to learn about God's goodness.
